MIH, “Molar and/or Incisor Hypomineralisation” is a molar or incisor enamel formation anomaly.
It can have a number of causes and remains subject to scientific study. The syndrome is quite common; various scientific papers have shown than more than 1 child in ten will be affected, although recent studies show that the percentage might be as high as 15%.
Hypomineralisation leads to an alteration of the enamel.
As a result the affected teeth will often have an unsightly appearance, with light to extreme colouring and a porous texture.
Unless protected these teeth may also become subject to decay and dental sensitivity.
